Look See Paint is proud to have received the Seal of Approval from Curriculum Services Canada www.curriculum.org (August 2006). The Seal is issued to publishers of learning resources as a result of a full professional evaluation conducted by CSC-trained staff. Highlights of the report include: Curriculum Correlation ► The program supports teachers in dealing with the elements and principles of visual arts curricula including creating, communicating, perceiving, responding, and reflecting. ► The materials provide opportunities for educators to meet the overall expectations of producing two and three dimensional works of art; using elements of design and using art terminology Bias ► The material is inclusionary and based on the belief that all people can and should experience nature and so should be able to use the resource ► Opportunities exist for students to respect individual opinions and ideas Content ► The author’s clear understanding of art, nature, and the Canadian landscape, and the way in which it is presented make the resource accessible to teachers ► Some Canadian resources sited; i.e., Bob Bateman, David Suzuki, and the Group of Seven ► Opportunity to connect to science, the environment, and geography are provided by this program thus allowing teachers to integrate subjects and make cross-curricular connections ► Teachers can build on students’ prior understandings and skills from previous years Methodology ► The suggested lessons are clear and easy-to-follow ► The initial lessons feature doodles and serve to affirm students work ► Examples are provided that will allow the teacher to work with students of various ages or levels ► Students have multiple opportunities to produce various pieces of watercolour art ► Lessons are included for sharing of student experiences, discoveries, and appreciation for art and nature Assessment ► The formal teaching of painting techniques i.e. background, foreground, mixing of colours, has not been included in this program, in favour of more informal personalized painting ► There are opportunities for students to reflect on their work Format ► The resource is well planned with a logical and easy-to-follow lay-out. ► Examples of student work are provided ► The painting box with its paint, brush, EarthViewer, and paper allows students to use the resource outside the classroom ► Students are provided with an opportunity to be engaged by relating the activity to nature. Recommendation ► This resource is recommended to support teachers: o In the teaching of elements and principles of visual arts curricula including creating, communicating, perceiving, responding, and reflecting o In meeting overall expectations of producing two and three dimensional works of art, using elements of design; and using art terminology
